Having a freelance business brings with it many advantages—some less obvious than others; but all fantastic.
Firstly, you get to work from home. Wave goodbye to morning traffic and breakfast radio or overcrowded public transport— we will not miss you. Instead, your commute is however long it takes to get from your bed to your computer.
On the other hand, some people opt for the freelance lifestyle so they can work from anywhere. You could take your business on the road with you and live in your dream city. Or live on holiday—if you wish. But, if you are thinking smaller, you can work from your favorite coffee shop.
When you are a freelancer, there is no one breathing down your neck to make sure you are on task. You do, of course, still have to meet your deadlines and expectations of your clients. But you do not have a boss pushing you into doing things you do not want.
In a similar vein, there are no annoying co-workers taking credit for your work. You will be the sole, and best, employee.
You also get to choose the work you do and the quantity of it. You can elect to do projects that you are passionate about and enjoy. You can choose which projects you take on, what kind of clients you work with, and what kind of work you do. As a freelancer, you get to choose the kind of work that you do.
When you become a freelancer, your work-life balance can be however your life. If you want to work more, and therefore do more projects and earn more money, you can. Or, if you work rather relax and enjoy the fruit of your labor, then you can do that, too.
You get to be your own boss. While this comes with added responsibility, it also comes with a lot of fun. As a freelancer, you will be in control of your business, and all the elements that come with that.
In conclusion, there are many advantages to becoming a freelancer; but many of them boil down to one thing: freedom of choice. As a freelancer, you get to choose so many elements of your life that you will not have before; and it is challenging and liberating and one of the best decisions you will ever make.
